Music
I like music. A lot. At any given time of the day, when I’m not playing console games or doing silent shit, I’ll probably have some band blasting my eardrums into oblivion.
Listed here are my music recommendations. I have a preference for hard rock and heavy metal, which makes up a lot of my library. However, I do listen to other genres, such as electronica, soft rock and hip hop. But it’s gonna be mostly heavier rock, apologies in advance if that’s not your thing.
If you have any music recommendations for me, let me know! I listen to artists other than these, these are just my favourites. Feel free to suggest anything.
VELVET REVOLVER
Genre: Hard rock
Recommended albums: Contraband, Libertad
Song of choice: Slither
Notes: Supergroup containing the legendary guitarist, Slash. He’s just as good as he ever was here.
SCORPIONS
Genre: Hard rock
Recommended albums: Lovedrive, Love at First String, Unbreakable, Virgin Killer
Song of choice: Rock You Like A Hurricane
Notes: SCORPIONS got a lot of flak for some of their album art, particularly Virgin Killer. It’s not difficult to see why, considering it’s a naked 13 year old on the cover.
IRON MAIDEN
Genre: Heavy metal
Recommended albums: The Number of the Beast, Killers, Iron Maiden, Piece of Mind
Song of choice: Run to the Hills
Notes: In 1983, Kerrang! Magazine considered TNOTB to be the 2nd best metal album of all time, beaten only by Piece of Mind, by the same band.
MUSE
Genre: Alt rock
Recommended albums: Absolution, Origin of Symmetry, Black Holes and Revelations
Song of choice: Hysteria
Notes: Formed after they entered a music contest for a piss-take, and found out that they were actually pretty good.
MEGADETH
Genre: Thrash metal
Recommended albums: Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?, Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction
Song of choice: The Mechanix
Notes: One of the Big 4 of thrash metal, along with METALLICA, ANTHRAX, and SLAYER.
ALESTORM
Genre: Power/folk metal
Recommended albums: Captain Morgan’s Revenge, Black Sails at Midnight
Song of choice: Leviathan
Notes: Lyrics are heavily-pirate themed. Often compared to death metal band SWASHBUCKLE for this reason.
LED ZEPPELIN
Genre: Classic rock
Recommended albums: Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin III, Led Zeppelin IV
Song of choice: Kashmir
Notes: One of the pioneers of the heavy metal genre, and probably the most well known among them.
GORILLAZ
Genre: Several, but usually considered alt rock
Recommended albums: Demon Days, Gorillaz, Plastic Beach
Song of choice: Every Planet We Reach Is Dead
Notes: The world’s first popular animated band. The band members are fictional and are reputably not based on any real person.
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS
Genre: Grunge rock
Recommended albums: Purple, Core, Stone Temple Pilots
Song of choice: Silvergun Superman
Notes: Scott Weiland, the lead singer, was in and out of jail from drug use and other misdemeanours, resulting in a lot of cancelled tours for the band. Earlier albums were slammed by critics but adored by fans.
NIRVANA
Genre: Grunge rock
Recommended albums: Nevermind, In Utero
Song of choice: Come As You Are
Notes: Kurt Cobain, the lead singer and guitarist, famously committed suicide. Some people believe this to be a conspiracy.
THEM CROOKED VULTURES
Genre: Hard rock
Recommended album: Them Crooked Vultures
Song of choice: Gunman
Notes: Supergroup formed up of Paul Jones of LED ZEPPELIN, Dave Grohl of NIRVANA and FOO FIGHTERS, and Josh Homme of QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE.
METALLICA
Genre: Thrash metal
Recommended albums: Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, Metallica
Song of choice: Ride the Lightning
Notes: One of the Big 4 of thrash metal, along with MEGADETH, ANTHRAX, and SLAYER.
AC/DC
Genre: Hard rock
Recommended albums: Highway to Hell, Back in Black, For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)
Song of choice: Highway to Hell
Notes: One of the highest grossing bands of all time, particularly in the hard rock genre.
THE LONELY ISLAND
Genre: Hip hop
Recommended albums: Incredibad, Turtleneck and Chain
Song of choice: Like a Boss
Notes: Not really a band, and more of a comedy troupe who do music.
“WEIRD AL” YANKOVIC
Genre: Comedy
Recommended albums: Running With Scissors, Bad Hair Day, Straight Outta Lynwood
Song of choice: Albuquerque
Notes: So popular for his parodies, that his site has a list of ‘Not Als’ that are songs commonly mistaken for his.
INSANE CLOWN POSSE
Genre: Rap
Recommended album: Bang! Pow! Boom!
Song of choice: Miracles
Notes: They raise fascinating and genuinely ponderous queries on the inner workings of magnets. This is a joke inclusion
